About this Glossary
We hope this will provide a useable lexicon of Chinese words that those interested in Puer tea may come across when tasting, discussing, purchasing or otherwise exploring the world of Puer tea.
Entries are in Pinyin followed by Chinese characters but tone marks have been omitted. The glossary is not exhaustive and we have deliberately left out names and terms that apply specifically to other Chinese teas that are not normally associated with Yunnan tea production and culture.
We have also not included nomenclature, numbers, etc. associated with the big tea factories as these have been covered elsewhere. It is meant more to be an introduction to the terminology and descriptions related to Puer - it's cultivation, production and consumption.
How to use the Glossary
Hover over the navigation bar to see a drop-down alphabetical list of Pinyin & Chinese words. Click on a word to see the entry in a pop-up window which can then be scrolled, or one can return to the initial page for further searches.
Alternatively, one can use pinyin or English in the Google Glossary Search. This will take you to a google page with any results for the word or term being searched for.
We welcome any suggestions for additions or amendments.
